Hubert R. Harmon collection, 1892-1988.

This collection relates to General Harmon's personal activities and military career from 1940 to 1957. Significant material pertains to his service with the Military Staff Committee of the United Nations from 1947-1953. Other items from this same time period concern Harmon's work with the Air Force Academy Site Selection Board and as Special Assistant to the Chief of Staff for Air Force Matters. The collection also contains materials from Harmon's time in Panama, his brief tenure as Superintendent of the Air Force Academy, his retirement, his work with the Air Force Historical Foundation, photographs from his various duty stations, and coverage of his death.

Hubert Reilly Harmon was born in 1892 and graduated from West Point in 1915 where he was a classmate of Dwight D. Eisenhower. After several different assignments, Harmon transferred to the Air Corps in 1920. During World War II he commanded the 6th Air Force in Panama and later the 13th Air Force, commanding allied air units during the Solomon Islands campaign.
